Commercial Tricyclist Killed Over Right Of Way In Lagos

The police in Lagos say a tricycle operator, Aniete Bassey, has allegedly been killed by a motorist over right of way in Surulere area of the state. Spokesman for the police in the state DSP Bala Elkana confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday, saying that it happened on Sunday along Akerele Street, off Falolu, Surulere. Elkana said at about 9.130pm on Sunday, Surulere police station received a distress call from Randle Hospital Surulere that a tricycle operator was brought there with a broken head, in a pool of blood but died on arrival. He said information gathered by homicide detectives revealed that the deceased had a misunderstanding with a man in a jeep on a major road along Akerele Street, Surulere. According to Elkana, during the scuffle, the driver of the Jeep brought out a wheel spanner and hit the deceased person twice on the head. Army Uncovers Gun Factory In Benue State, Arrests Manufacturer And 9 others

Operatives of the joint military intervention force, code-named Operation Whirl Stroke, OPWS, have uncovered another firearms manufacturing plant in Benue State. The operatives also successfully arrested the arms manufacturer alongside nine others, including a wanted alleged kidnap kingpin and cattle rustlers operating between Benue and Nasarawa states axis. Parading the suspects at the OPWS headquarters in Makurdi, the Force Commander, Major General Adeyemi Yekini, said six of the suspects were arrested in Nasarawa State, while four others were apprehended in Benue State. He explained that the arms manufacturing plant and the fabricator, Shekwa Terna, were discovered in Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State, following a tip-off. Isheri killing: Police counter army, say soldiers stabbed patient in doctor’s presence The Ogun State Police Command has said soldiers from the 81 division were involved in the killing of some residents of Isheri Olofin, a boundary community between Lagos and Ogun States. The police spokesperson, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said statements from eyewitnesses revealed that the soldiers dragged a resident from the hospital where he was being treated and stabbed him to death with a bayonet. Our correspondent had earlier reported that during the celebration of the Isheri Day Festival on Monday, a disagreement broke out among some residents. In the ensuing fracas, some soldiers were reported to have shot dead three people at the party. Man Kills Himself In Enugu Well (Photos)

A man has killed himself by willing entering into a well where he choked to death. The incident happened in Umunogo Street Amaokwe, Agbani Road Enugu. According to WarriWarri reporter who visited the scene, the residents of the area said they were shocked because he was full of life and energy before his death. Masari To Buhari: Sporadic Bandit Attacks Still Occur In Katsina

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday paid a sympathy visit to victims of armed banditry in seven local government areas of Katsina State. He also said he had directed service chiefs in a meeting last week to completely re-strategize operations and reposition for optimum results. The president was in Batsari Local Government Council, Katsina State, where he met Internally Displaced Persons (IDP), drawn from seven affected local governments of the state. “I am very sad that the consequences of these actions have brought hardship and affected the socio-economic life of our people in the localities. Agriculture, which is the mainstay of the economy and source of livelihood, is worse affected,” he said. He commended the government of Katsina State for supporting security agencies and facilitating some of their operations. Buhari: “Why I Ordered CBN To Stop Forex For Food Import”

President Muhammadu Buhari says the directive to the Central Bank of Nigeria to stop providing foreign exchange for food importation was to improve agricultural production and attain full food security. Malam Garba Shehu, the President’s spokesman in a statement, said Buhari stated this when he hosted All Progressives Congress (APC) governors to Eid-el-Kabir lunch at his country home in Daura, Katsina state on Tuesday. According to the president, the foreign reserve will be used strictly for diversification of the economy and not for encouraging more dependence on foreign food. “Don’t give a cent to anybody to import food into the country,’’ he said. Last night, two thieves were crushed to death at mobile junction ring road in Ibadan, Oyo state, after snatching a new bike and phone at shoprite junction. According to a video we've been furnished with, a car driver who witnessed the attack, gave them a hot chase and finally knocked them down.
